Frequently Asked Questions
How do lasers work to remove hair?
What happens during laser hair removal?
First, please shave your hair 2-3 days before your scheduled treatment. This ensures your hair is all the same length, so treatment is more consistent.
Next, your provider adjusts the laser to suit your skin type, tone, texture, and color (since dark hair absorbs laser energy more quickly than light hair). Your provider then applies a cooling gel to your skin to keep you comfortable and performs a test in a small area to make any final adjustments to the laser before treating the entire area.
After your treatment, cool compresses or ice packs keep your skin comfortable and reduce any residual stinging or discomfort you might feel briefly after your session.
How will I feel after my treatment?
You may have some mild redness in the area for a day or so after your treatment. If you have very sensitive skin, the redness may persist a little longer. It’s also common to feel some mild discomfort or soreness in the treatment area for a day or two, especially if your skin is very sensitive.
You should be careful to avoid the sun durning your treatments. Your provider will give you complete care instructions before you leave the office.
How many laser hair removal treatments do I need?
Hair grows in cycles, so to eliminate hair, you need to have it treated during a specific time during its growth cycle. For most patients, that means they need about six treatments to make sure all hairs are treated at the optimal time to prevent regrowth. Your treatment plan is optimized for your specific needs.
