What are microneedling and PRP?

Microneedling and PRP are skin rejuvenation treatments that require minimal time, discomfort, and downtime. These minimally invasive treatments are ideal alternatives to cosmetic surgery and laser treatments for many adults.

Microneedling uses dozens of thin, tiny needles to puncture the surface of your skin. These microwounds activate your body’s natural healing process, which makes new collagen to repair the damage.

An essential protein in your connective tissues, collagen keeps your skin responsive and tight. Encouraging new collagen production can help your skin appear firmer and more youthful.

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a component in your blood that contains healing growth factors. When applied to the skin after microneedling, PRP can accelerate the healing process and amplify your results.

What skin concerns can microneedling and PRP address?

Microneedling and PRP can effectively rejuvenate the appearance and quality of your skin to target a wide range of concerns, such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Brown spots
  • Melasma
  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Skin laxity
  • Stretch marks

While the face is the most common area for microneedling and PRP, Dr. Seeker and her team can target skin concerns nearly anywhere on the body with this combination treatment.

What can I expect from microneedling and PRP?

Before microneedling, Dr. Seeker and her team apply a topical anesthetic to numb your skin. Next, they use the handheld microneedling device to create tiny punctures. Your skin may feel tender and raw, but the anesthetic helps to minimize your discomfort.

To extract the PRP, the team draws your blood and places it in a centrifuge that spins it rapidly. This process isolates the PRP for maximum potency. Once the PRP is ready, the team applies it to your skin over the areas that they treated with the microneedling device.

Most patients need about three to six microneedling with PRP treatments, spaced about three to four weeks apart, to see long-lasting results.

How long does it take to see results from microneedling and PRP?

Results from microneedling with PRP depend on your aesthetic goals. While most people see initial improvements in the tone and texture of their skin within two months, it can take up to six months to minimize the appearance of scarring and hyperpigmentation.
